Top 10 most under-rated yet hardworking bloggers in Singapore

This post might offend some people. The notion of ‘under-rated’ could piss some people off. ‘Are you saying I am always trailing behind’? or that ‘I am not popular enough’?

I believe some bloggers might see it negatively.

Nonetheless, I thought this could be an interesting piece. Essentially highlighting some ‘dark horses’ in the realm of blogging.  The not so ‘traditionally popular’ kind, yet exceptionally hardworking in attending events, curating articles and staying positive in whatever they do. I thought I should pay tribute to these people and give them some recognition & credit for what they have done.

Here’s the top 10 most under-rated yet hardworking bloggers you can find in Singapore.

Shaun Owyeong

This handsome looking lad is always seen attending car, sports and tech events. Someone who have had a full-time job and working as a model in the past, Shaun has been a lot more active in blogging since early 2015 ( ever since he quitted his full-time job). When he attends events, you can be sure that he will publish his post soon after, and he will add value to his clients by publishing it on his social networks like Facebook and Instagram.  In a recent Domino’s 50% Promo campaign, he was also spotted to be very hardworking in pushing his promo code to his readers. He got into the top 15 mid-way results.

Even though Shaun stands at 1.7m, he is compensated by a telegenic and photogenic face.

Tracy Wong

A hardworking and earnest female blogger in the scene. This NUS graduate is surprising, a pole dancer! Yes, she plays with poles ( No Pun Intended) on weekends with her fellow contemporaries and when I chatted with her, she said pole dancing has been a relatively easy thing for her to do as she has dance background and has been dancing since 9.

She recently blogged about her breakup with her boyfriend and how she intends to get over the heartbreak. ( I wish you the best).  Tracy has been a person who is always down-to earth at events. She makes it a point to ask the right questions at events, and blogs conscientiously for her clients.  My best BET is on her for the award ‘Best Committed Blogger of the year’.

Sophie Leow

I first met Sophie at our TINCADEMY ‘So you want to be a blogger’ event. Sophie strikes me as someone who is curious and passionate about the blogging scene.  Sophie is a Singapore-based lifestyle influencer who has been writing online since 2007. Her topics of discussion revolves around travel, food and beauty.  At this moment, Sophie is a guest blogger at Zalora Community. She is also the ambassador for the popular deals-discovery app Sugar, and for the renown beauty and wellness company Expressions.

With the right opportunity and hard work, I certainly could see her going far in the blogging arena.

Elaine Heng

This ever youthful Image Consultant Elaine Heng has forayed recently into the blogging scene. You can see her attending beauty, food and lifestyle events, and posting interesting articles about her experience. The mother of two ( if I am not wrong), can also be seen sharing lovely photos of her two boys in co-ordinated fashion wears on Facebook. Even though she’s an entrepreneur and busy with her work schedules, her blog postings are still very extensive and detailed. Keep flashing your mega-watt smiles, Elaine!

Kaviel Teo

Kaviel Teo hasn’t been known as the top blogger in Singapore. In fact, I always see him shadowing a top male blogger William Tan during events (pardon me). This guy, I think, works very hard in joining contests and campaigns. In a recent Domino’s 50% Discount code contest, he was ranked in the top 15 ( Midway Results) amongst the big boys ; the highly popular Instagrammers, Fitness personalities and Youtubers. His standing is indeed commendable, as I also suspect he works very hard in establishing himself as a blogger.  Still a young Chap; I believe with much hard work and determination, he will be able to find some light in his pursuit as an Influencer. All the best Kaviel!

Pris Chew

This avid runner blogs about sports especially running. Pris strikes me as a person who is ultra hardworking and committed to her craft of blogging. She has attended our recent TINCADEMY course and was seen typing every word that was said (I am Serious). Nonetheless, her professionalism as a writer/blogger is impressive. She is always seen interviewing people at events, much like what you will expect from a journalist.

I invited her recently to FeetHaven for a review and immediately she replied with questions for me to answer. Talk about professionalism, right?

Jessie Quek

I knew her way during my freelance PR days. I remembered her attending one of my client’s events few years ago. Always chatty and friendly, Jessie is very candid and speaks her mind freely during events. She is always seen attending events with her close friend, Shuqing. Jessie blogs a lot on beauty, lifestyle and even sporting events. Definitely someone who has been contributing a lot  in the blogging scene; but not getting the kind of recognition she should be getting.  Keep it up Jessie.

Danessa Foo

A prayful mum, and consistently updating her blog on lifestyle, children & parenting issues. I have not seen her often at events, but she always exudes positivity and enthusiasm on her social media personas. A check on her blog, and one will get to see her religious and spiritual side as a blogger. Way to go Danessa.

Hendric Tay

What?! How can Hendric be under-rated?! ‘You must be kidding?!’ This must be what’s in your mind right now. Hold your thought!..Wait..I am merely of the view that Hendric hasn’t been getting the kind of recognition he truly deserves. Being a travel blogger, he has traveled around the world with a savings of $16K. That’s truly inspirational considering how many of us will forsake what we have here and explore the untouched and unforeseen.

Hendric has re-invented himself recently with some new initiatives in his social media pursuit like creating the travel intern series.  I believe whatever he has done has impacted and inspired many people. I last saw him 1.5 years ago at a TIN event in our Changi office. He has traveled extensively ever since. Let’s catch up soon!

Derrick See

Surprise! The last on my list is a photographer, writer & blogger, Derrick See. You probably have seen him in the same ‘gang’ of Hong Peng and CK Chai. This tight group often attends events together and might also be seen sharing notes & light gossips with one another. Derrick is an avid Photographer who adds value by taking nice photos for his clients. Always supportive and friendly, Derrick is definitely a force to be reckoned with. Keep up the good work!

And yes, the above are the top 10 most under-rated and hardworking bloggers in Singapore. I have to qualify that there’s no negative connotation associated with the word “under-rated’. My point is just that these bloggers are probably not getting enough recognition and support for the kind of work they have been doing thus far. ‘Hardworking’ is added to suggest they are committed and passionate in the craft of blogging.

For those who are not listed, don’t worry, perhaps you are either a  a high tier Blogger, or just not in my radar yet.

Nonetheless, May 2016 be a good year for blogging. May Everyone HUAT HUAT HUAT this year!
